Countdown to Election Day
It’s Sunday before Nov. 6th, 2012 and I’m torn. I don’t know how you feel about this election, how you will vote, your thoughts on the economy, or any of that. By this point in a race I am usually just ready for the process to end. For all the ads and mud slinging and name calling to be over. This time around I am anxiously optimistic about the outcome but also almost sad that the fight will soon be over. Strange.
This election really has come to life thanks to Facebook. My son also turned us onto TRMS - The Rachel Maddow Show which I love. Funny, I used to like Rush Limbaugh before he went crazy and the Republicans lost their way.
I don’t remember ever seeing such divisiveness among my friends in an election. The gulf between left and right seems to get wider and wider. The 2% control more and more of the wealth. The 47% seems more like 80%. And the small, used to be middle class, seem to be holding onto the hope that they too may one day be a 2%er if they elect the candidate who promises to extend tax cuts to the very rich.
I used to buy all that stuff too. I am a Libertarian at heart. I would like to see less government. But lately both parties have been growing the debt, and getting more and more involved in our personal lives.
I plan to take my economy into my own hands and I will help anyone who cares to listen pull themselves out of a just getting by lifestyle. I do not think it’s unreasonable to ask the top 2% to pay a little more. Warren Buffett agrees. Do you really want to be rich in a country that offers only economic freedom while it tramples on the rights of women, gays, lesbians, and the like?
Reminds me of Matthew 16:26 (NIV) “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?” Who wants bags and bags of money and no rights?
If my plan works out in 2013 I will gladly pay more taxes. I also plan to help my local charities in a big way. I want to feed, cloth, house and educate the less fortunate. I’ll be working with the local soup kitchen and other charities. If things really go well then I’ll be investing in a school, buying some land and growing organic foods thereby stimulating the economy, going green and helping the less fortunate all at the same time.
What I cannot tolerate are cuts to education and encroachment on my rights and the rights of the women and others.
We need to pull together, what ever the outcome, bring our troops home, work together in Washington to balance the budget, and move forward as one. Neither extremely left/liberal or extremely right/conservative but moderate and in the middle.
My plan to stimulate my own economy and by extension my family and community is to continue working my full-time job while I continue to grow my part-time online business.
